first week and more 23-03-11

i actually posted this on the first week before brett showed us how to set it all up, cause i didnt use the correct title i deleted my old blog and made a new one so here is my first (official) post (it was called getting tools):

"thursday 10th march 2011
Ok, this is my first time blogging...
(Im just kinda experimenting and getting to know how blogs work etc...)

Instead of going to the party (im not a very social person btw) i decided to stay at home and do a bit of research into hand tool prices.

this morning i spent a couple of hrs on trademe browsing thru hand tools, i didnt really find much.
you can get sum reasonably (i think) good quality retractable craft knives, measuring tapes (slightly better prices than the tool guy), and no. 4 planes. the annoying thing is its very difficult to see the quality of the planes cause most ppl only take one pic.

then after lunch i had a look at what hammer hardware have, i was browsing around checking prices and the guy there asked what i was looking for (as they do), he said he was very willing to give me discounts cause im a student. a few min later he came back and asked to have a look at my tools list (the one we got from the tool guy) and he was pretty impressed, he pointed out the really good quality tools (combination square, G-clamp, drill bits, etc...) and he said that most of the tool were really good prices (that he wudnt be able to match).
obviously there are the odd bits and pieces that i will prob buy at hammer hardware.

after that i went to mitre 10 mega and looked thru their hand tools. once again there are only the odds and ends that are better qualilty/price (better stanley knives - more expensive, magetic screw driver/holder - more expensive but better quality, hammers (20oz) - way better quality $20-$60, good no.4 plane (stanley bailey) $200, better tenon saws - once again a bit more expensive).

thats about it.

you can get most of the other stuff i didnt mention but as far as i can see you're not getting much better quality/price.

i didnt manage to find the respirator that matt said we shud get T.T

well there we go,
my first blog done.

umm...
yeah

aparrently u can get the good respirators from the health and safety shop near mitre 10 mega in wairoa park (i think thats how u spell it)

now that the tool guy isnt selling us stuff, u can try get it from bunnings, i ended up buying half my stuff from there! really good quality!
i still need to find a nice place to buy the other stuff from.
