mid semester break

before the break we managed to laminate most of the hull (interior). we laminated athwartships (across) the hull.

sticks out, so we need to make a new one

we also fitted all the foam onto the deck, and sanded everything that needed to be, we also filled all the holes in the foam, so that we are pretty much ready to start laminating again after the break.

portfolio

i planned to start my small craft build portfolio last weekend, however it never happed. so i should deffinitly start it next weekend. my other portfolios need to be resubmitted (which shouldnt be too hard, i just need to make a google doc and copy/paste the info in and give richard and brett access)

other then that, i just want this week to end. im so tired andreally dont feel like going to uni atm.

foam

i finished fitting all the foam in the cabintop and glued it all in place.

yesterday after working on my half ship model, whisch i nearly finished (all that is left is to finish making the keel and the rudder, the hull shape is all done and the backing board is ready. however we havent started resining anything yet.). on a more dissapointing note, there are actually very few people who have finished, or rather are going to finish their half ships model to a reasonable standard (about 5 i think). good enough to be used for making a mould. and then later a moulding (or 'product' as brett likes to call it). I removed all the nails holding the strips down and started sanding and fairing the cabin top (exterior).


yesterday i also removed the nails from the gunwhale coveing that we made last week (today they are glued in).

the cabintop is nearly all faired, and i cut off the strips that were sticking past the companionway bulkhead and sanded them flush to the bulkhead. the other guys are busy getting the combings foam fitted.

richard went to a meeting at 11:30 so we had an early lunch. and he hadnt come back by 1:00 so i decided to do some blogging, since we are not allowed to use the machines.

hopefully we will beable to finish fitting the foam this week so next week we can glass the deck.
if not we willl probably just glass the hull.


we heard news that michael is comming back. it might be usefull having another hand around the workshop.

hull problems, and foam fitting

my last post ended with the sanding of the hull! fun!!!

the next day we find out the there is tonnes of sap wood in our hull... great

we had to router it all out, by nailing a batten to the hull and running the router along it to ensure a stright, or rather fair curve. (most of this i wasnt involved in, i was starting to fit the foam on the deck frames). however i did get a chance to help with some of it. i really enjoyed a breack from the foam and got a chance to chisel out bevils in the end of the strips that we cut out to ensure a good join.

most of the time i spent fitting foam. but i kept track of the others making new strips to go in the gaps, and then gluing. and after that sanding.

note: we should have filled nail holes before we sanded because now we have to sand AGAIN!!! for a third time!.

other then that we managed to fit most of the foam. and on friday i started gluing the cabin top!

so it should be ready for glassing by the end of the week. or next week
